new challenges for cochrane snow clearers

Public works departments have been taxed to the limit by all the storms we’ve had to endure this winter.

In Cochrane, infrastructure services director Shane Skinner says the wind and resulting drifting snow this time out pose a real challenge for snow removal crews working in the rural area of the town, along concession roads.

“We have a couple contractors that are providing assistance with loaders to help bust up some of those drifts that the graders and the snowplows could not get through,” according to Skinner.

The drifting snow blowing across open fields and on to those roads creates conditions that the snow clearing workers aren’t too familiar with.

“The additional agricultural developments in our community have been great,” Skinner says, “but it’s also opened up a lot more fields which have caused a little more issue than we’re used to this year.”
