Starting March 15th and every second Friday until May 24, Northern Lights Baptist Church in Iroquois Falls is offering a free soup kitchen.
Church member Sonia Gervais is leading the way. She says that the church building isn’t properly equipped, so the meal will be served at the Youth Hub on Cedar Avenue (the former deLaplante Insurance building).
“We are targeting anybody who really needs it,” remarks Gervais, “whether it be for companionship or whether it be because it just helps out with the budget for being able to come and have a meal being replaced for them. Anybody really who’s in need.”
The homemade soup, sandwich and dessert will be served between noon and 1:00pm. Gervais says the community has been great in donating items to help out.
“It’s every second Friday for now, “ she adds, “and if we feel that people are really in need and could benefit from having it every Friday, then we’ll look into that as well.”
