United Way North East Ontario is now accepting applications for grants in Timmins and the Districts of Cochrane and Timiskaming.

“These grants are available for registered charities to apply for,” according to United Way district manager Jennifer Gorman.

The money is available for programs in three priority areas. “First is helping kids and all that they can be,” she notes, “moving people from poverty to possibility; and the last one is communities.  So as long as they’re a registered charity and doing work within one of those three areas, they qualify.”

The grants are split geographically among Timmins and Cochrane and Timiskaming Districts.

“So for example,” Gorman explains, “I know that some agencies in Timmins do work in the Cochrane District, do work in the Timiskaming District and do work for the City of Timmins.  So they are able to apply for all three areas through these funding streams.”

The deadline to apply is the 8th of March.
