OPP LOOKING FOR AUXILIARY OFFICERS

The OPP James Bay detachments are looking for a few good men – and women – to join their auxiliary force.  Those detachments serve the area from Cochrane to Hearst, and up to Moosonee.

It’s a volunteer position – so no pay – and Constable Stephanie Belec says the role is to help regular officers.

“So that would include patrolling with regular members,” she outlines,” assisting with community events, RIDE initiatives, safety displays, any presentations. So that would be their main duties.”

Const. Belec says the application process and training are both rigorous.

“Once you’re an auxiliary member, every month you have to spend a minimum of ten hours on patrol with a regular member or at a community event, and six hours of training.”
