NO NEW SNOW OVERNIGHT, YET NO SCHOOL BUSES IN THE MORNING

A snow day is one thing, but you might be wondering why your kids’ school bus was cancelled today (Mon., Jan. 21), because of cold weather.

Ryan Hartling is the transportation supervisor for all of the school boards in our region, except French Catholic.

He says there were issues getting many buses started this morning, especially ones that were parked outside over the weekend.

“Operators were starting the buses over the weekend to ensure that the batteries were not going dead.  However, there was numerous fails this morning. And we were concerned that with the numerous fails, there’d be large delays and we didn’t want to have children waiting out at the bus stops, especially those that don’t get our notifications.”

There’s another specific circumstance in which school buses are kept off the road in cold weather.

Hartling explains how it’s related to the diesel fuel that powers the buses:
