Med Students Meet with North East LHIN

Two students from the Northern Ontario School of Medicine spent a day with the North East Local Health Integration Network. The two second-year students say they will be practicing medicine in the North East when they graduate. The two are from Elliot Lake and Espanola. The two students were speaking to the LHIN about health care priorities in the region. The students heard that over the next 20 years the population of those aged 65 and over will increase to more than 30% of the population. The North East LHIN shared information on how they will be shifting more care to communities to better support seniors. The students also received information on palliative hospice care, diabetes and behavioural supports for those with dementia and their caregivers.
