FORMER COCHRANE RESIDENT NAMED TO ORDER OF CANADA

An Indigenous artist from Stratford is among the newest appointments to the Order of Canada.

The list of the 103 new appointments was unveiled Thursday morning at Rideau Hall in Ottawa and Maxine Noel was among the names announced.

Noel has called Stratford home for over two decades. She was born on the Birdtail Reserve in Manitoba, and lived in Cochrane in the 1970s.

In a statement, Rideau Hall says Noel is being recognized for her “unique work in visual arts and her advocacy of the creative expression of Indigenous communities.”
