*UPDATE* UP TO 25 CM NEW SNOW STORMING INTO OUR REGION

To skiers, snowmobilers and snow removal contractors, the snowfall warning we’re under right now is good news.  Maybe not so much for anyone planning to travel today or tomorrow.

Environment Canada meteorologist Marie-Eve Giguere says our entire region can expect as much as 25 centimetres of new snow.

“We’re looking at 24 hours of snow and ending late in the day Friday,” she tells Moose FM News.  “So 24 hours of snow and just as many centimetres, so that’s a lot of snow.”

The storm moved in from the west, dumping about 15 centimetres of the white stuff on the Thunder Bay region.

Giguere says if you’re travelling south tomorrow, there will be less snow, but freezing rain.  She says driving will be trick all over the province.

Once the storm moves out, we’re in for cold, windy weather.

“We’re looking at windchills that could reach minus-30 or below, almost minus-35 by Saturday morning, but quieter weather, so just bundle up for that.”

Giguere also forecasts another snowstorm – but smaller – hitting our region on New Year’s Eve into New Year’s Day.
