STUFF A CRUISER GOES SATURDAY IN COCHRANE

To serve, protect, and make sure Christmas is happy for everyone.

Members of the Ontario Provincial Police Auxiliary in Cochrane are doing their annual “Stuff a Cruiser” event this Saturday from 10:00am until 4:00pm at Giant Tiger and Canadian Tire.

Acting Auxiliary Staff Sergeant Ralph Johnson says a new wrinkle this year is that instead of a cruiser, the officers will be stuffing offender transport vans.

“We bring one from Iroquois Falls – Chevy Express van with a cage inside it,” Johnson says.  “We grab one from Cochrane, we park one of those at each location and we actually fill two offender transport vans.”

Johnson says they’re looking for donations of toys for kids between five and 15, as well as cash and gift cards.

“All that stuff is collected.  At the end of the day, we then take it up to NEOFACS,” he says, “which is more commonly known as Children’s Aid, and they have a list of families that are needy and don’t have the means to get stuff.  And they supply the kids with appropriate gifts.”
