SNOWMOBILE OVAL RACING COMES TO LAKE COMMANDO

The last times Dan Girard remembers seeing snowmobile oval racing in the North was 1979 in Timmins… in Cochrane in ’71.

With the Town of Cochrane as the promoter and Girard as the co-ordinator, he’s bringing it back to Lake Commando January 25th and 26th.

“With the new pavilion that we have and the stage area and everything,” Girard boasts,  “it just falls in perfectly to hold that kind of event.”

…Perfect for competitors and spectators alike.

Racers from Southern Ontario, Québec and possibly the States will be in Cochrane for the races. They’re part of the Ontario Snow Oval Racers circuit.  But there is an opportunity for amateur local racers to get in on the action, too.

“All they have to is go to osor.ca,” according to Girard, and all the rules and regulations are there for all the different types of sleds and the different classes.”

Those classes range from kids 120 and 200, to the F-500 pro sleds and mod sleds.

He says the OSOR jumped at the opportunity to come to Cochrane.  It’s finding it difficult in Southern Ontario, because of the lack of good sledding conditions the past several years.
