It’s the season of lights, and Ontario Northland is on-track with its annual “Brighten the Night” events.
Over the next three weeks, a freight train decked out with Christmas lights and decorations will stop in towns right along its rail line… one community a night.
Ontario Northland communications manager Renée Baker says her agency partners with organizations in each of the communities. They take care of the on-site activities, like hot chocolate for the kids.
“We have Christmas music going. It’s just a nice little event where people can kind of mingle with their friends and family and neighbours and just get into the Christmas spirit.”
This year, glow sticks will be sold at each of the locations for five dollars each. Proceeds go to local charities. According to Baker, In Cochrane it’s in support of the food bank. In Iroquois Falls, it’s KidSport and the Bill Harkins-Eugene Ricard Santa Claus Fund. The train pulls in the Cochrane station on Tuesday night at 6:00 and in Iroquois Falls, at the crossing at Synagogue and Ambridge Drive, Wednesday at 6:00.
