An election recount request will be taken to a court order.
Peter Politis is requesting a mayoral recount after he lost the race to Denis Clement by five votes. Clement ended election night with 981 votes and Politis was right behind with 976.
Politis brought this request to council, in case there were any doubts in the count due to equipment. Council discussed the request but can’t put a motion forward for a recount because the sitting mayor is the one who asked for it. The Town of Cochrane says members of council did indicate their full confidence in the counts and election process. The town adds that some members felt that council shouldn’t vote for a recount.
The town says Politis will be applying for an order for a manual recount because only a superior judge can make a decision on the request.
