Local Firefighters are celebrating Fire Prevention Week.

The Timmins Fire Department says crews will be stationed around different communities talking about the importance of taking preventative matters to ensure you and your family stay safe. Fire Prevention Officer Rock Rice says this year’s theme is to look listen and learn. “So you look for your smoke alarms, listen for the sound and have a home evacuation plan so you can get out as fast as you can.”

Rice says there are a few things in your home that can become fire hazards without you even knowing like “frayed extension cords, heating appliances that aren’t serviced and can create a problem in a basement. That’s why we are out and promoting fire safety this time of year.”

Firefighters in Timmins will be stationed with a booth at Walmart Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Rice says officers will be at the Timmins Square of Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
