College Students Spread Positive Messages

Nursing students are doing something to start a conversation around mental health.

Northern College says third-year nursing students have been writing positive messages on post-it notes and placing them around the campus as part of the #DOSOMETHING campaign. Jack.org started the campaign to help encourage a conversation on mental health and suicide awareness.

Practical Nursing Professor Elizabeth Brownlee says the students are currently studying mental health challenges, which works with the challenge. Brownlee says she followed the trail of affirmation notes and it was nice to see several posted on faculty doors, reinforcing that we are all in this together.

The class is also writing the positive notes in a variety of languages including English, French, Punjabi and Spanish to be culturally sensitive.

Northern says it will continue to work with Jack dot org and other organizations to ensure that all students feel safe and comfortable.
