Workshop Aims to Help Us Live Long and Healthy Lives

Living long and healthy lifestyles is the goal for an upcoming workshop.

The Porcupine Health Unit is teaming up with local organizations to host a Healthy Aging Expo across the region. Public Health Nurse Patrick Nowak this is an important event for the community because  “some older adults may not know what is available in their communities.” Nowak adds that often times there is a lot more available than what people know about. “The Healthy Aging Expo’s are used to sort of highlight what is available and how to access these services.”

He says there will be about 40 booths set up with information on different services available in town for people 65-years-old and up. “We are hoping to cover a wide range of topics such as falls prevention, using technology, mental health, information regarding diabetes, information of finances, as well as things like fraud prevention.”

Nowak says most of the region’s events will also feature speakers who will make presentations on some of these topics. That schedule will be released at a later date.
