Students Spread Comfort

O’Gorman High School students are helping local homeless with a new invention.

Three students in the Specialist High Skills Major Program’s Innovation Creativity Entrepreneurship Challenge were asked to come up with something that would help the local homelessness population.

Hailey Vaillancourt, Lauren Doyle and Brianna Hway came up with “caring covers”. These are blankets that can double as a pillow, tarp or something to sleep on with a zippered pocket that contains a list of social supports in the community. The list also includes a schedule of operation for each organization.

The Northeastern Catholic District School Board and Glencore teamed up to create 200 “Caring Covers” that will be given to some of the organizations in town including Project Love, Living Space and the Yo Mobile. Each place will receive 50 “Caring Covers” to be handed out to people as they see fit.
