Man Rescued by Local Police

A distress call has saved a man’s life.

The Timmins Police Service says this morning, officers were called to Seventh Avenue and Toke Street because was a man was distraught and apparently acting irrationally.

Police say a short time later the same man was seen walking fully dressed into Gillies Lake, just off of Lakeshore Drive. The man had managed to make his way approximately 30 feet from the shoreline when police found him. TPS says officers were able to dissuade the man from harming himself. Police say some of the officers removed their police-issued equipment and got in the water to better assist the man.

He has been taken to the Timmins and District Hospital by ambulance for a thorough assessment by a
physician under the Mental Health Act. Currently, he remains under the care of the Mental Health Unit.
