Smokey Thomas, president of OPSEU was in town yesterday visiting a nearby fire base. Forest Fire Fighters there belong to the Ontario Public Service Employees Union, and Thomas wanted to thank them in person for their heroic efforts this fire season.
Thomas says those who don’t work in the forest fire field can’t really understand the perils of the job.
He says many of the fire fighters are getting ready to head to British Columbia where wildfires continue to rage.
