Police See an Increase in Calls

Calls for police services has increased this year.

The Timmins Police Service says in July officers responded to 2,763 calls compared to 2,399 during the same month last year. TPS says this is a 15 per cent increase. Police say during that month, officers laid 478 charges with special attention given to:

– 54 Bail Violations
– 23 Assaults
– 181 Traffic Violations
– 10 Drug Related Investigations
– 12 Shoplifting Complaints
– 7 Break and Enter Occurrences
– 6 Mischief to Property Occurrences
– 3 Frauds
– 3 Impaired Driving Occurrences
– 3 Disturb the Peace Calls
– 1 Sexual Assault
– 17 Other Criminal Code Offences

TPS says a total of 398 chargers were laid last July, making this a 20 per cent increase. Police say when you break down the numbers, officers respnded to an average of 89 calls per day this July compared to 77 last year.

Communications Coordinator Marc Depatie says this is an interesting “snap-shot” of what officers are doing to help the community.
