Fire Bans Still in Effect

Despite all the rain and cooler weather, the Northeastern fire ban is still in place.

The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry says there are currently 44 active forest fires in the region with firefighters working towards containing 18 and holding 26. Fire Information Officer Shayne McCool says the regional fire ban is still in effect because there are so many fires active in the area.

McCool says the MNRF is keeping a close watch on the number of resources it has as well. He says the agency doesn’t feel safe listing the fire ban until it is sure it has enough resources like firefighters attacking the fires. He says this is something it is monitoring quite closely.

McCool say the MNRF will send out a release when the fire ban is officially lifted.
