Forest Fire Updates

There are about 17 new forest fires in the region.

The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry says in the northeast there are 66 active fires with 28 of them out of control and 38 are being held, under control or observed. The Cochrane sector now has 12 active forest fires, that are not a major threat according to the MNRF.

Sprinklers and ground crews are currently working on a 400 hectare fire west of Tomorrow and Yesterday Lakes. Water bombers are working on an out of control 85 hectare fire just west of Cochrane.

The MNRF says it is continuing to work on these fires. It says the northeast region is now a restricted fire zone. If you have any sort of open fire you could face $25,000 in fines, three months in jail and paying for the costs for the forest fire. The MNRF says if you see any smoke you should report it.
