POWERFUL STORM HITS CANADA DAY

A massive thunderstorm with high winds didn’t stop Cochrane and Iroquois Falls residents from enjoying Canada Day.  Fireworks went off as scheduled with good crowds in attendance.  Downed power lines caused sporadic brown-outs in Iroquois Falls.  Two fallen poles in Cochrane left the east end of town powerless for more than 7 hours.  But Kapuskasing took the worst hit of all with power down for nearly ten hours.  Relatively minor property damage was reported, and no serious injuries were reported in Cochrane or Iroquois Falls.
