Things will be different for this year’s 50/50 draw at Stars and thunder.
The United Way has teamed up with the City of Timmins to sell the nightly tickets this year. The United Way says the tickets are more electronic this year so it’s easier to keep track of them. It says you will get a print out with your numbers like at an OHL game.
Manager of the Cochrane Temiskiming District Jennifer Gorman says you have to be on Stars and Thunder grounds to buy tickets, but don’t have to be in the park to claim your prize at the end of the night.
The tickets are $10 for 10 and 60 for $20. She says this year the half of the money that isn’t given to a winner will be spread between a number of local organizations.
Those organizations include:
- Access Better Living – Extend-A-Family Summer Program
- Alzheimers Society of Timmins-Porcupine District Inc – First Link Program
- Anti – Hunger Coalition Timmins – Good Food Box Program
- Community Living Timmins – Residential Program
- Science Timmins for Kamiskotia Snow Resort – Ski in School Program
- Le Centre culturel La Ronde – Kids Summer Camps subsidies
- North Eastern Ontario Family and Child Services – Various subsidies for disadvantaged children
- Sports for Kids Timmins – Sports subsidies
- Northern College of Applied Arts – Lightning Trail Summer Camp
- Northern College of Applied Arts – Bursaries to full-time students
- Science Timmins – Summer Science Expedition
- Seizure & Brain Injury Centre – New Beginnings Day Program
- Timmins Learning Centre – Homework Club
- Timmins Porcupine Search and Rescue Inc – Search and Rescue Program
- United Way Centraide North East Ontario
Gorman says there is no cap on the amount of tickets sold, so the prize amount in unlimited. The winner on night home went home with $8,335. She says she is hoping this number grows as the week goes on.
