The polls have now closed and we’ll know in a short while if New Democrat John Vanthof will be elected to a third term as MPP for Timiskaming-Cochrane. Vanthof easily won the riding in 2014 capturing 55 percent of the vote. He’s facing five candidates vying for his seat. They are Margaret Williams who is running for Tories, the Liberals have Brian Johnson while Shawn Poirier who represents the Northern Ontario Party. Rounding out the candidates are Casey Lalonde who campaigned on behalf of the Green Party and Libertarian Lawrence Schnarr. It may not take long to learn who wins the riding because some polls are equipped with tabulator counters meaning faster results. Returning officer Maurice Landriault told the Moose turnout at the advance polls was pretty good. Our next update will be at 9-20 and depending how fast the tabulators are, we could have some early results to tell you about.
