Stars and Thunder Ticket Sales Slowed Down in May

Ticket sales slowed down last month after spiking in April.

A city report shows that 340 tickets worth $39,205 sold in May May for this year’s Stars and Thunder compared to 630 worth $112,282 last year. So far, 6,023 worth $1,591,475 has sold for this summer’s event featuring Bryan Adams. City staff says the inaugural event brought in $3,994,847 in ticket sales.

The city says sponsorship’s, both cash and in-kind, as well as concession revenue is up. To date, cash sponsors including:

  • Goldcorp — PGM
  • UP Cannabis
  • Northern Fencing, Miller Paving, Caron Construction
  • CAT, Certarus, Union Gas
  • Firework Sponsor Group
  • Caisse Populaire- La Ronde, College Boreal
  • INEOS Calabrian
  • Workforce North
  • New Tin Shop
  • BMT
  • Pepsi
  • Venture Center

total $455,250 compared to $150,000 in 2017. In-kind sponsors are up to $654,000 compared to $650,000 last year. This year’s concession revenue is up to $38,000.

The city says it is looking at cutting some costs this year by having shorter festival hours and fewer bar locations. CAO Dave Landers says by changing the time the gates open and limiting the amount of bars on site, the city was able to cut about 33 per cent of its costs.

City council will go over the full report tomorrow night starting at 6:00pm.
