Train Service is Back on the Tracks After a Derailment

The Polar Bear Express passenger train is back on the tracks today.

On Wednesday night, five of the 11 train cars derailed on its way to Cochrane from Moosonee. Ontario Northland says there were 73 passengers and seven crew members on board when the train left the tracks 24 miles south of Moosonee. It says all the passengers were taken back to Moosonee over night and only minor injuries were reported.

Ontario Northland says repairs were made to the tracks over the weekend. It says passenger service will start back up today and freight service will start it’s regular schedule back up again on Tuesdays and Fridays.

There is no word yet on what caused the derailment.
