Rally for Rail Comes to Cochrane

A rally to bring back passenger rail service is coming to Cochrane.

The Northeastern Ontario Rail Network will hold a “Rally for Rail” meeting with communities that could benefit from the service. Organizer Lucille Frith says there are so many important reasons to bring the service back to the people.

Firth says it would also be safer than the road. She says that one thing the southern region has that the northern doesn’t is a grid system for roadways. She says that if there is a collision or anything that closes a highway in the north, there is no way around it without getting stuck in the gridlock. She says the passenger rail service would still be able to run though.

Firth says this rally is primarily to show how trains could actually run on the tracks again and that is up to the voters. She says the voters are the ones who will make the decisions on who becomes elected.

The rally will be held at the McIntyre Community Centre tonight at 7:00pm. Firth says there will be a presentation as well as an open discussion. She says everyone is welcome.
