The Green Party candidate for Timiskaming-Cochrane says upcoming marijuana changes can help the province with its deficit.
Casey Lalonde says right now the plan is to have 40 outlets handle the drug but she says this won’t stop the illegal market.
Lalonde says it means revenue gets lost but adds the solution is pretty simple.
“Allowing more private sector distributors creates more tax revenue and we can use that revenue to fund programs like mental health and education,” Lalonde said.
Lalonde says businesses also need more relief so they can afford to pay their employees a living wage which translates into more revenue since working people pay taxes.
