City says Shorter Hours and Fewer Bars Planned for Stars and Thunder 2018

The hours and amount of bars set up at Stars and Thunder will be changing this year.

CAO Dave Landers says the city is reducing the amount of hours the festival grounds are open and how many bars are in each ticket section to cut back on costs.

Landers says the gates on the weekdays will open at 3:00pm this year. He says last year the gate openings varied, but things didn’t get going until later in the day. Landers says that having the bar services open early for a few people getting settles at 2:00pm didn’t make economic sense.

Landers says this year the city is also reducing the number of “bars” in the festival grounds. Last year there were five locations with two in the VIP section and three in general admission. He says this year there will be three bars with one small one in the VIP are, a small one in the general admission and a big bar service that would service both VIP and general admission ticket holders in a tent.

Landers says by making these changes, the city is seeing a 33 per cent reduction in bar service costs. Timmins City Council has awarded this year’s bar services to McIntyre Catering Company for a bid of $98,500 plus HST.
