Police Celebrate Road Safety Week by Taking the “D” Out of Driving

This week will be dedicated to taking the “D” out of driving.

The Timmins Police Service says this week is Canada Road Safety Week. TPS says city police and the OPP will be patrolling for distracted, drunk and drugged driving. Communications Coordinator Marc Depatie says post-mortem examinations are showing that more people are dying in collisions involving distracted driving than drunk driving. He says it has sad to see that we now live in a place where you have to watch for people checking their phones.

Depatie says driving is an activity that requires all your attention. He says police will host check stops in various locations throughout the week, as well as actively patrolling and searching for unsafe drivers.

Depatie says with your cooperation, collisions can be reduced and everyone will get home safe. Police Week runs from now until Monday.

This initiative  is part of Canada’s Road Safety Strategy to have the country’s roads the safest in the world by 2025.
