New Clinic Open To Help Battle The Opioid Crisis

There is a new clinic helping people fight alcohol and opioid addiction.

The North East Local Health Integration Network has launched a Rapid Access Addiction Medicine clinic for the Cochrane and James Bay regions in Timmins.

Two doctors will be working with patients who are either referred to or call into the clinic by working with local organizations to treat the patient.

Executive Director of South Cochrane Addiction Services Angele Desormeau says this is the North East LHIN’s way to fight the region’s opioid crisis.

Desormeau says she is unsure of the number of deaths in Timmins because of opioids, but the problem is bigger than people think.

Desormeau says the goal is to lower the amount of deaths and increase the amount of options for people.
