A new Recreational Therapist position in Kapuskasing, Hearst and Iroquois Falls will help those with disabilities.
The North East Local Health Integration Network is providing $630,000 through the Ontario Dementia Strategy to increase Behavioural Supports Ontario services in the region.
That is joined by another $60,000 investment directly from the NELHIN to the North East BSO to enhance their regional patient intake system.
NELHIN CEO Jeremy Stevenson says the number of older adults is expected to grow by 27 per cent within the next decade.
Stevenson says they need to be prepared for such a growth with the right resources in place to support and care for Northerners.
The end result, Kapuskasing’s North Centennial Manor will now include a recreational therapist, as well as Foyers des Pionniers in Hearst and Iroquois Falls’ South Centennial Manor.
