Bill To Increase Use Of Wood In Northern Ontario Axed

Kathleen Wynne’s decision to halt legislature until this Monday is the reason a pro-forestry bill is not going through.

That’s according to Nipissing PC MPP Vic Fedeli, who says the Liberal’s announcement has put an end to Bill 169, the Ontario Forestry Revitalization Act.

Fedeli says the bill, introduced in October of 2017, would have seen an increase from six to 14 stories as the maximum height of wood buildings in Ontario.

He says to increase the use of wood in Northern Ontario would continue to provide more jobs, while also helping Southern markets reduce their own construction costs.

However, he says the decision from the Premier’s office shows that the current Liberal government is more invested in their own interests than that of northern families.

Wynne announced the changes Thursday and says the government will outline their plans for the new session in the Speech from the Throne on Monday.
