Forestry Initiative Gives High School Students First Hand Experience

A new initiative is giving local high-school students first-hand experience in forestry.

A two-day program titled Forestry Connects brought roughly 30 students including some from Iroquois Falls out on tours Friday and Saturday.

The tours were being put on by EACOM, based out of Sudbury, who gave students a chance to engage with forestry operators to learn more about machinery and its uses.

The completely free program is being used to expose students to careers within the industry.

EACOM Public Affairs Director Christine Leduc says initiatives such as this give the community better understanding of the company’s direction.

She also says in the future they hope to create further similar initiatives to engage youth.
