NOSDA Excited For Funding To Help Social Housing

A newly announced social housing energy program that is suited to the north has the Northern Ontario Service Deliverers Association excited.

The NOSDA says the $25 million funding through the Green Ontario Fund will help the province’s social housing buildings that are less than 100 units invest in energy efficient additions.

NOSDA CAO Lead Fern Dominelli says given hydro costs in Northern Ontario and the lack of natural gas service in many communities, the program is well-suited to the North’s needs.

NOSDA Chair Ian Angus says they greatly appreciate the program and welcome the new investments in energy efficiency within the social housing sector.

Angus also says they are particularly grateful that the smaller buildings across the North now qualify for energy assistance.

He says previous programs took a focus on larger buildings, something the North has few of.
