The Cochrane Winter Carnival kicks off today with the CHIMO hockey tournament all day at the Tim Horton Event Centre.  The oldest winter carnival in Ontario features ten days of family fun action and includes a snowbox derby 6:30 this evening at Queen Elizabeth Park, where contestants of all ages will race homemade snowbox sleds — made to resemble real snowmobiles.  Then tomorrow the curling club is hosting its polar spiel, the Cochrane Classic Vintage Riders are doing their snowmobile parade, Miss Chimo will have her story time at the library, and there will be snowmobile drag races on Lake Commando starting at noon.  For a detailed schedule of events and attractions go to cochranewintercarnival.com.
