Mayhem and chaos was the rule of the day on highway eleven yesterday from North Bay through Hearst. Multiple vehicle accidents due to weather, including five transport trucks off the road south of Cochrane, meant the highway was closed for most of the day, leaving hundreds of drivers stranded with no detour options. The Ministry Of Transportation says they kept 511 updated, but many using that service were already trapped in traffic by the time they became apprised of the situation. Hotels along the route, especially in North Bay and New Liskeard, were packed to capacity overnight.
