Northern MPP Doubts Auto Insurance Rate Cuts Will Benefit Northerners

As the province attempts to tackle auto insurance fraud, one northern MPP says he doubts any rate cuts will result in a reduced cost for northern drivers.

NDP Timiskaming-Cochrane MPP John Vanthof says the Liberal government has not mentioned their actual goal for lowering insurance rates.

The Liberals announced last Tuesday a standard treatment plan for common collision injuries, ensuring neutral examination centres and medical assessments with contingency fees that are fair and transparent.

Vanthof says they have mentioned possible measures but have not mentioned a goal, therefore leaving him to doubt that Northerners will receive their fair cut.

The PC party has responded by saying the Liberals are acting on insurance rates solely due to the fact there is an impending election in six months’ time.
