Police are reminding residents that December and January often see a spike in robberies. As you’re out visiting friends and family, new Christmas toys and other valuables are left unguarded. Police say if you’re going to be away for any significant period of time, you should make sure your home looks occupied. Ask a neighbor to look in on the house. You might also ask a friend to park their second car in your driveway. Put house lights and Christmas lights on different timers to simulate manual activation. And consider investing in a reputable alarm system. Even an alarm sticker in your window, absent of the technology itself, can deter criminals. Avoid speaking publicly, or posting on social media, about upcoming vacation plans.
