A listener informed MooseFM that a scammer claiming to represent the Canada Revenue Agency contacted her yesterday, demanding money and threatening legal action if she did not comply. The OPP reminds the public to be wary of phone scams. Revenue Canada says they will never demand money over the phone. Such communications are undertaken through other means — usually by registered letter. The CRA says you should not give out personal information to anyone without first verifying who they are. If you believe you have been the victim of a fraud, contact the police or the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre.
