TSB Makes Recommendations To Transport Canada Regarding 2015 CN Derailment

Transport Canada is accepting the recommendations designed to make railway operations safer in Northern Ontario.

This past week Transport Canada in a news release said they accept the resulting safety recommendations from the investigation into the CN Rail train derailment near Gogama.

The investigation carried out by the Transportation Safety Board recommends that Transport Canada should use more available data from inspections and repairs when issues occur.

TSB spokesperson Kathy Fox says they are asking Transport Canada to further seek out indicators that could predict a future problem.

Fox says Transport Canada is mandated to carry out track inspections, something that had not happened to the Ruel Subdivision near Gogama from 2012 up to the incident in 2015.

Nickel Belt MP Marc Serre says that by adhering to these recommendations similar incidents can be prevented.
