NOMA And FONOM Claim Environmentalists Are Bent On Destroying Forest Industry

Claims that Ontario has ignored the Caribou species is only overlooking 20 years of hard work.

That’s according to a statement from NOMA President Wendy Landry and FONOM President Alan Spacek regarding accusations that the MNRF and province have ignored woodland caribou issues for decades.

FONOM and NOMA’s joint statement points to factual evidence that caribou are returning to previously harvested areas in Northwestern Ontario, and that in fact climate change is the single greatest threat to their species.

The statement also speaks to how activists have continued to point back to human disturbance as the main issue, despite a clear improvement and evolution in ecosystem management.

A World Wildlife Fund Canada report from September of 2017 shows 87 species who could be under Canada’s Species at Risk Act, which includes woodland caribou, declined by an average of 63 per cent between 1970 and 2014.

Also pointed out in the statement is that by simply adhering to activists claims, jobs, communities and the way of life of many Northerners will be put at risk due to activists information that is 10 years off.
