(NHL)   The Los Angeles Kings scored 3 first period goals then hung on to beat the Toronto Maple Leafs 5-3 last night. Auston Mathews scored on his first career penalty shot, Morgan Reilly and Connor Brown also scored for Toronto. Elsewhere Ottawa beat Detroit 3-1, Minnesota doubled Montreal 6-3, Calgary needed overtime for a 2-1 win over Pittsburgh and Mark Scheifele had a hat trick as the Winnipeg Jets skated to a  5-2 victory over the Dallas Stars,

(NFL)   In the NFL Thursday nighter the  New York Jets thumped the Buffalo Bills 34-21. The Jets defence sacked Bills QB Tyrod Taylor seven times.

(MLS)  In Major League Soccer playoffs the Seattle Sounders defeated the Vancouver Whitecaps 2-0 to win their Western Conference semifinal. Seattle will now meet either the Portland Timbers or the Houston Dynamo in the West final.
