A new group titled All Aboard Northern Ontario plans to resurrect the Northlander passenger train service in the North.
The newly formed group, all of a week and a half old, will be visiting different towns along the train’s former route in order to meet with the communities.
All Aboard Northern Ontario Group founder and Spokesman Eric Boutilier says they plan at each of these meetings to give a detailed report that will describe how they plan to bring passenger train service back to the north.
Boutilier says the report will include the total estimated costs of the project, but also the benefits as well.
He says the time for action is now, and if there is any progress to be made in Northern Ontario, this is the route to go.
With a provincial election looming, Boutilier says the Northlander needs to be a major focus of both the public and the candidates of every political party.
