(NHL)  The Chicago Blackhawks spoiled the Montreal Canadiens’ home opener with a 3-1 victory last night. In other action Mark Stone scored in the fifth round of the shootout to help the Ottawa Senators to a 3-2 win over Vancouver and the Vegas Golden Knights remained unbeaten three games into their inaugural season after a 5-2 win over the Arizona Coyotes in their home opener.

(NBA)  The Toronto Raptors ran to a 116-94 pre-season win over the Detroit Pistons last night at the Air Canada Centre.Jonas Valanciunas finished with 18 points and 11 rebounds to lead Toronto.  The Raptors finish the pre-season on Friday in Chicago, and then host the Bulls in their season opener on Oct. 19.

(Soccer)  In World Cup qualifying the U.S. was eliminated from contention last night with a 2-1 loss to Trinidad and Tobago, elsewhere Lionel Messi scored all three goals in Argentina’s comeback 3-1 victory over Ecuador to qualify and Portugal also qualified beating Switzerland 2-0.
