(MLB)  The Kansas City Royals crushed the Toronto Blue Jays 15-5 last night. Jay’s starter Brett Anderson gave up a season-high eight earned runs along with seven hits and two walks in an inning and a third. In other action the Boston Red Sox beat the Baltimore Orioles 9-0, and the Los Angeles Angels lost 6-5 to the Cleveland Indians meaning the Red Sox were assured their second consecutive trip to the post-season. Boston joins AL Central champion Cleveland and AL West champion Houston in the American League playoffs, which begin next month. Two spots are still up for grabs.

 

(MLS)  The Montreal Impact shocked Toronto FC 5-3 last night. Toronto had not lost since July 1st and was unbeaten at home this season.

 

(NHL)  Last night in preseason NHL action. Washington doubled Montreal 4-2, Edmonton beat Winnipeg 4-1 and Vancouver skated to a 5-3 win over Calgary. Meanwhile off the ice Joffrey Lupul posted on Twitter yesterday apologizing for earlier social media posts where he appeared to deny any injury after the Toronto Maple Leafs announced he failed his medical this year, and said he would not be seeking a second medical opinion.
