The species at risk guide may be on hold for now, but says Cochrane Mayor Peter Politis, that doesn’t mean the north is out of danger.  Politis says with activists running the provincial government and pushing an agenda that is scientifically baseless and ideologically destructive, it wouldn’t take much for the SAR act to crush the northern way of life.  Politis says the Species at Risk Guide contains protective measures for some 180 species, and the pressures put on forestry from even one of them – the introduction of Caribou for example — would be fatal to forestry.

Mayor Politis says he and other northern municipal leaders continue to work hard in opposition to the SAR guide, and he is grateful to Minister Katheryn McGerry for her willingness to press the pause button and take a deeper look.
