(MLB)  The Boston Red Sox beat the Toronto Blue Jays 3-2 in 19 innings last night and into early this morning. Kendrys Morales hit his 27th homer for Toronto, which took a 2-0 lead into the bottom of the ninth. Roberto Osuna entered looking for his 36th save, but ended up blowing a chance for the 10th time. The game took six hours and was the second-longest game ever at Fenway Park which opened in 1912.

(US Open)  Venus Williams reached her third major semifinal of the by edging Petra Kvitova yesterday at the US Open. Williams will face Sloane Stephens on Thursday who  with a victory over 16th-seeded Anastasija Sevastova of Latvia.

(NFL)  An arbitrator denied Dallas Cowboy’s running back Ezekiel Elliott’s appeal of a six-game suspension in a domestic violence case yesterday, but the 2016 NFL rushing champion will play in the opener because of the timing of the decision
