The OPP are reminding parents that using a proper car seat can be the difference between life and death.

Police are notifying the Cochrane community that making sure your child is buckled up correctly in their car seat or booster seat is a necessity before beginning your drive.

Infants who are 20 pounds or lighter must use a rear-facing seat, children 20 to 40 pounds must still use a forward-facing car seat.

Officers also suggest you use a booster seat for children all the way up to the age of eight, especially if your child weighs between 40 to 80 pounds and is shorter than four feet and nine inches.

Police say using the right seat for your child’s weight and development can be the difference in preventing serious injury or death in a collision.
