A new program to help prevent diabetes will be starting this fall.

The Porcupine Health Unit will be starting the “HealthyStyles” program in September to help prevent type two diabetes.

Health Dietitian Emilie Lablond says people who sign up for the program will meet once a week for 12 weeks , then drop to six biweekly sessions, then finally six monthly sessions to encourage the healthy lifestyle changes.

Lablond says there are certain people at a higher risk of getting type two diabetes including being overweight, family history and different ethnicity groups.

She says English sessions will be held in Timmins and french sessions will take place in Kapuskasing.

You can sign up for the free program by calling the health unit.
